This orange ginger margarita recipe is so good. Homemade ginger simple syrup combined with fresh squeezed orange juice– what could be better? Oh I know… adding tequila!
A classic margarita is a staple in this household. I always like to keep the ingredients on hand, and sometimes I like to mix things up and try out something new! This refreshing orange ginger margarita did not disappoint. I knew I had to share it on the blog for y’all to try. It almost tastes like a healthy juice or a glass of sunshine (don’t you love when cocktails taste healthy?? ha!).
This cocktail comes together in no time. The hardest part is making the ginger simple syrup, but if you’re in a pinch, you can use store-bought. If you have the time though, it is worth it to make homemade!
To make the margarita, simply combine your favorite tequila blanco with orange liqueur, fresh squeeze orange juice and lime juice, and the ginger simple syrup. Shake, shake, shake! It’s best to pour into a chilled glass. Now all that’s left to do is garnish with an orange slice and enjoy!
Simple syrup can easily be made at home, but when you’re in a pinch, store bought works fine too. To make the ginger simple syrup needed for this recipe, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved, then add 1/3 cup fresh ginger that has been peeled and sliced. Simmer for 15-20 minutes to infuse the ginger flavor into the simple syrup. Allow to cool completely before straining out the ginger. Transfer to a bottle (I like these ones). This ginger simple syrup will keep in the fridge up to 3 weeks.
This orange ginger margarita could easily be made into a orange ginger mocktail. Try switching the tequila out for a bottle of non-alcoholic Ritual Tequila and skip the orange liqueur. You can also just skip the tequila altogether, leaving just the fresh squeezed juices and ginger simple syrup. Pour about 2 oz club soda on top and there you go; a simple mocktail that is just as delish as the real thing!
